What is an Application Service Provider? |
| Application Service Providers (ASPs) allow
customers to use applications as a service without the usual
burden of maintaining costly and complex infrastructure. Applications
are run from the ASP Data Center and can be accessed through
dedicated lines or the Internet using a web browser. ASP's simplify
the use of applications by making them platform independent
and location independent. |
What can an ASP do for your business? |
The typical value proposition of an ASP
includes:
Strategic focus - Outsourcing
most of the IT function, allows you to build on your core
competencies and lets you spend your resources on where
you can gain competitive advantages. |
Improved performance -
ASPs typically guarantee their customers pre-defined performance
levels in terms of data security, system up time, help
desk availability and disaster prevention through contracts
called Service Level Agreements (SLAs). |
Speed to market - ASPs
already have the hardware and expertise ready to provide
rapid deployment of applications. |
Reduced risk of ownership
- Using an ASP reduces the need for investing in fixed
and specific assets. You pay for what you use and retain
the flexibility to align your IT costs with your operational
requirements. |
Reduced total cost of ownership
- Through ASPs you pool some of your IT infrastructure
with other organizations and therefore benefit from economies
of scale. |

What is LiveQuest? |
LiveQuest is Schlumberger's ASP offering
and allows you to take advantage of accessing E&P data and
applications while benefiting from the domain expertise of a
renowned player in the E&P industry. Our goal is to give
you access to the best of both worlds through two offerings:
We can deliver applications
and data management services from our worldwide network
of Data Centers to your desktop, via the web, as part
of an integrated solution that combines software, infrastructure
and value-added services. |
We can help you build your
own in-house ASP, or Local Application Service Provider
(LSP). The LiveQuest Inside solution incorporates LSP
design, implementation and management of a solution that
fits your specific technical and business requirements.
What is LiveQuest Inside? |
| LiveQuest Inside is Schlumberger's LSP offering.
An LSP or Local Application Service Provider is an onsite computing
environment that leverages ASP technology and Intranet infrastructure
to deliver applications to the users' screens. LSP eliminates
the need for redundant desktop computer systems and, by centralizing
computing resources, facilitates management and makes more efficient
use of large IT infrastructure. LiveQuest Inside utilizes your
intranet, rather than the world wide web. |
What are the specific benefits of LiveQuest? |
LiveQuest is more than just a new way of
delivering applications and data. LiveQuest brings your organization
numerous additional benefits:
Value-added services that
leverage the ASP model and are built on our E&P domain
expertise such as data storage, interpretation and workflow
consulting. |
Collaboration tools that
support your work with partners, within global asset teams,
with our interpretation consultants or our helpdesk. |
Access to far reaching
network of data management services, data acquisition
services and third party data vendors. |
Global 3D visualization
application and data access |
What applications will I be able to use with LiveQuest? |
| The entire Schlumberger Interpretation software
portfolio is accessible through LiveQuest, including 3D visualization
applications. In addition, we will host applications developed
either "in-house" by our customers or by third party
E&P software vendors, depending on your needs. |
How much does it cost? |
| LiveQuest offers so much more than a simple
Application Service Provider solution, added benefits also include
Data Management and Data Storage.
LiveQuest ASP pricing is split into 4 major components:
Application access fee,
based on the (a) number of projected concurrent users,
(b) applications to which you subscribe to and (c) the
term and mode of your subscription (which might be full-time
or limited to the number of hours per month) This fee
covers the software and infrastructure costs necessary
to serve the applications via LiveQuest. You can also
access Applications using "pay-per-use" services
on an hourly, daily or weekly basis. |
A data storage fee based
on the size of your project. |
A one off set-up fee applied
to every named user. |
Additional value-added
services, such as associated workflow analysis, project
and reservoir consulting and data management. |
Is my data safe? |
| LiveQuest protects customer data from eavesdroppers
by encrypting all data flow between users and data centers.
Each customer has a dedicated database and periodic backup of
projects will be performed. Each Data Center has audit-ready
disaster prevention equipment and operates under strict security
procedures. In addition to this, One Time Password provided
by DeXa.Badge, can also be implemented, offering the best solution
in terms of security and flexibility. |
How do I access my applications? |
| Any computer equipped with a web browser
and connected to the Internet is sufficient to use LiveQuest.
Bandwidth requirements will depend on the application but will
remain small thanks to the thin client technology that only
transfers the visual output of the application going one way
and captures mouse movements and keyboard strokes the other. |
